I shall not resort to the usual critique of the Policy Statement that the New Greek Government presented to the Parliament, in the last few days, because for a change that they are unfamiliar and wouldn’t take it. They are unfamiliarly fresh in both style and content:
- They were not exhaustive in data, measures and detail. They left something for the audience to imagine.
- They were more devoted to a visionary future and less to a contradictory They clearly painted a vision of Greece, which has left behind the misery of division and stands proudly in Europe.
- They addressed all aspects of daily human Apart from the economy and employment, they looked deeply into health and social solidarity, education, security, defence, innovation the renovation of an efficient State.
- They radiated hope not as communicative or philanthropic effusion, but in a very concrete way, as a calculated, imminent reality. They displayed the organisation and mechanisms that will make it a palpable reality.
Was everything perfect? You know, after five years of Koumoundouros, that for us truth is an absolute priority. I missed two things in the Policy Statement: first, a reference to the umbilical cord of our nation with the Orthodox Church and secondly, a demarcation of our relations with all our neighbours, not just the two most noisy.
But let us go back to the Policy Statement. They illuminate a national life of intense and daring action, at many new fronts. They call us to a new voyage of optimist dare, with many bets but all based on our national virtue: Gallantry in face of the unknown and the new, if it is for Greece. Drawing courage from the achievements of Hellenism in world culture and merchant marine, I pick the dice and play it with self-confidence.
