Is there no end to the political morass of SYRIZA?

“Koumoundouros” in the five years of its life, has been a paradigm of sobriety, in its political evaluation and discussion. But there are times that even the coolest reporters explode. Spontaneously, because they are humans and coolly, when they perceive something of the order of a national catastrophe. The present verbal explosion is an example of the latter case.

We have been kind and at times even receptive to the political salade macedonois of SYRIZANEL, but at the end of their somewhat extended first stay in government they have gone amok with every Greek institution and the Constitution itself, over the Novartis case. This case has been repeatedly advertised by the SYRIZANEL Government, beginning with the infamous deputy Minister for Medicine – Mr. Polakis – and ending with the Prime Minister himself, as the greatest scandal ever.

However, the Parliament, after a scrutiny of the case by a special Investigating Committee of the Parliament for months, returned it to the Judicial Authorities, with no findings against the impeached 10 politicians, including 2 ex-Prime Ministers. The government produced few “protected” anonymous witnesses, who deposited hearsay evidence and the Judiciary dropped the case against 5 of the 10 impeached, is considering doing the same for another 4 and only asked the Parliament to give its permission for further examination of one of the accused, on some fresh evidence. The Judiciary expressly stated in its report, that no traces of bribery or other illegal acts were found in all 10 cases, even though all requested bank accounts had been opened.   

Now, with the country well into the election period, with four elections scheduled for the end of May (European, regional and two categories of local) and the parliament elections looming, at the latest by October, SYRIZA still screams over the Novartis “scandal” raising political temperatures, above explosion points. We do not know what, or how much Mr. Tsipras, Polakis etc learned in their troubled schooldays, but they should now be sternly forewarned that fooling around, with the Judiciary, the Parliament, other Institutions and above all the Constitution is a dangerous game for all, particularly for the protagonists.
